Building Number Sentences

When I talk about writing number sentences, I always have one or two students who look at me like, HUH?  We talk about it A LOT, but when it comes down to writing number sentences, they will write:

There are six cats.

Not quite what I was going for.  I made some work mats this year to provide my students with extra practice on writing number sentences.  They will use connecting cubes to build the given number on the work mat, and then write it.  Here's a sample preview page.

I have made the work mats go up to the sum of 18.  If you'd like to download the whole FREE set, click the image below to be directed to my Teachers Pay Teachers store.  When you download, you will also find suggestions on how you can incorporate these work mats into your classroom.

Rewriting articles in their entirety is not an ethical practice. Many businesses will fire a journalist who practices this type of writing. See more here paraphrasing help
