Common Core, It Is Coming :)

Hi, I'm Fern from Fern Smith's Classroom Ideas!
So, Common Core Standards...
you know you have heard about it for awhile, right?
Well, get ready, it is coming! I'm so excited!
This week we have already had our first Common Core Leadership Meeting, I know, I know it is summer, but our principal rocks and we had a little pizza party with the meeting!
Food is always an excellent item to have on the agenda, don't you think?

Our school's plan to roll it out with a theme, DO FIVE THINGS WELL. That way everyone, including the Leadership Team, is not too overwhelmed, quits and then we do everything poorly!
I think it is a great idea and I'm looking forward to the five things we pick. I know one will be Singapore Math. The sixth grade teacher, my partner teacher & I have been doing it for an entire year and we've had great results. Now it is time for the entire school to be trained. Have you tried it? What did you think?
Well, I'm excited about this journey and I can't wait to share it with you!
I'm currently the 3rd grade team leader, Teacher of the Year and blog addict!
I ♥love♥ new followers!

I am your newest follower and I am the 100th follower!!! I want to learn more about Singapore math so badly. I can't seem to find information anywhere and my school isn't paying for staff development:( If you have any resources you know about, please spread the word. I am moving to kinder from 3rd specifically to amp up the math in the lower grades... I want to Singapore math with them SO, SO badly!

So excited about this new blog! I teach kindergarten in South Carolina. We piloted the Common Core Kindergarten Standards in our district last year. Ready for next year - with one year of experience - I feel confident and excited about Common Core in my classroom. Loved the math - way more in depth with number sense! Language Arts was more difficult - it helps to be very organized and methodical. :)

I am very excited for this blog!! I teach second grade in Ohio. Our kindergarten and first grade classrooms are switching to the Common Core this year, and 2-4 will be switching the following year. I'm kind of jealous of K-1... I'm ready to switch over NOW!

Heather! Wooo hooo! We're all so glad you're here and that you are our 100th follower! I teach 3rd now and I'm going to be training our 2nd grade teachers. In January, we'll be training our 1st grade teachers, but we've made no plans to train the Kinders. Do you have word problems? Can they read word problems? Feel free to email me FernleySmith@yahoo.com if you do and I'll ask my 6th grade teacher. She has done it a lot longer!

So excited to have found this blog! This upcoming year will be many firsts for me...first time teaching 3rd grade, first time teaching ELA, and first time incorporating the CCSS. Previously I taught 4th grade Math, Sci/ SS.

Looking forward to many great discussions!
